So I picked up a Nintendo DS Lite the other day...the first game system I've bought since the PS2 a few yrs ago. Yes, this is starting to sound like such a typical blog post...well I'm not even gonna tell you if I like it or not - go to another sissy gaming site for that.
I'm here to point out what the DS reminded me of that I hate SO much.
Yes - THE SELECT BUTTON. The totally worthless, totally useless, NEVER USED button on every controller ever made...and don't even try and be like "oh but this one game I..." NO! I don't want to hear it. It's totally useless. Even the "Start" button is becoming questionable. Oh you know I'm right.
God dammit even those clever assholes at microsoft sort of knew it and decided to make their select button the "back" button. Yet..YET, whenever you're in a menu on the xbox 360, what button do they tell you to push to "go back"?
The RED "B" button.
Fuckin god, I'm going to lunch. Another day ruined.
Uh-huh, 100% of pointless. Just like this comment.

While on the other hand, this comment was sexy and sleek with a touch of cloves (which I hate). Start buttons are good for scratching breaks, though, you must admit.

I dunno... on super mario world start and select might save your life.

Well at least the select and start button are quite useful for gameboy games, A + B + Start + Select resets the gameboy... ever... so... useful... Oh my god, you're right!

You're absolutly right about the select button, but it's rare to find a game that doesn't use the start button (unless you're talking about final fantasy or something). How else could we pause the game or open a menu while all the other buttons are too bussy being useful?

I mean, sometimes start n select to return to main screen on ps2.

One thing that i dont get is that in some x-box games i played start pauses the game and back pauses the game and goes to a menu screen... wats up with 2 paus buttons use-less

Select Button? Try PC gaming bitches, over 100 buttons and you usually use less than 20 unless you type somthing in.

true so true

well in nba 2k6, and I'm pretty sure in madden as well, the select button is used for timeouts, which is very useful for substitutes, or getting to halfcourt in basketball in the last minute, or just thinking over your next play. So, in sports games, yes, it is useful.

Yes, Start button is coming useless too. I mean every time apears text "press start" on screen, 9/10 is pressing A or X button.
Now that makes ya wonder.

Metal Gear Solid - codec button!!!! = select.
Besides, that's the only game worth playing, so that button is a MUST
